Mongrel are getting some serious remix attention on their new release.

We all know by now that Mongrel are some kind of indie super group and expectations are pretty high for the forthcoming album “Better than Heavy”.

According to the Mad Decent blog this track is part of an EP due for release on Throne Of Blood Records. You’re thinking that this sounds like a proper rock label right there but thats so wrong…

DWWG describes his sound as

“philly kids in ibiza making beats on laptops with hipsters/hip-house electro bangers.”

or even better ”thug house“

now i’m down with that… but what it means is we get a tight funky electro house track with a killer bass, strong vocal lick and kick ass beats that pushes all the right buttons. Like my man Jonna said this weekend “Electro is killin it right now”. Dam right!

Strafe – Set if Off

Sometimes a tune will start a chain reaction in your brain that you just can’t stop. Last week “Set if off” did that to me. I heard it and had to know more.

The track was recorded in 1984 by Walter Gibbons and released as an indie 12″. Walter had been a pioneering disco dj during the 70s, creating a lot of the techniques DJs use today.  Come the early 80s and Walter had slipped from the scene a bit, then suddenly he released this incredible chicago house killer cut. It was quickly picked up by Larry Levan and became a Paradise Garage legend spawning imitations and various “answer-back” versions.

Hats off to the innovators!
I might make this a regular spot of retro electro/house if you show some love…

I totally slept on his blog but I’ve been rinsing it all day today and suggest you do the same. There is so much goodness on there its hard to know where to start. Definitely try and pick up some of his sessions from Brooklyn radio

If the Olympics decided to introduce electro banging remixes as a medal event then the fully fitted crew would be the US team…

This stella EP hit the stores last week on vinyl and is due to pop up on mp3 at turntable lab in the next couple weeks..

This is a proper funk fuelled electro disco taken to the limits.. i can’t help smiling when i think of this ep.

Cool, sexy,experimtental and full of joy in a “i’m not a hippy but i do want to enjoy everything” kind of way..

Heres the Justice, Llil Wayne Mashup remix kind of thing from the EP… but this is just the start.

Hell no! This is upfront and uptight shizzle y’all.. bmore breaks, sassy rappin and hot remixes make this a serious CMYK recommendation…

The new EP comes with Jokers of the Scene, Nacho Lovers and JFK on the fix.. who all do their thing. I’m just glad that the band have decided to let the blog world publish a few of there back catalogue to get the hype rolling cause then i get to share some extras with ya..

Australian glitter pumpers PNAU have been heavily bloggable for a while now, more artcore than hardcore their track Embrace is a delicious synth pop track that swirls and dreams across a dancefloor like ABBA on acid.

It’s now been given a bit of a banger make over from a Fred Falke and Miami Horror collaboration… but in a very sympathetic way. The intro has been beefed up and the synths punch heavier over Ladyhawke’s ethereal vocals…

I perfer the original but  why don’t you tell us whats hitting the mark..
