Fromage Disco

February 13, 2009

Fromage are an out and out, good times, disco party crew from Melbourne Australia. They hit us up with loads of quality disco edits and I just had to share.

Fromage have been the host of some quality parties in recent years… building off the back of an unwavering good taste in quality disco music.
Most recently they hosted Todd Terje at their weekly La Di Da event.(I had the pleasure of actually taking Mr Terje to the recent Soulfulvibes gig in Liverpool UK a few weeks ago. I couldn’t go to the night so I ended up as the driver. I think I went a bit far in the car banging on about UK funky to “the Todd” but who cares, I’m that kind of guy!)

Back to Fromage. Here are as many of their edits as I could upload in an afternoon. There are more if you go diggin around in their facebook or myspace site… and don’t forget their mixtape selections over at blentwell.

Strafe – Set if Off

July 30, 2008

Sometimes a tune will start a chain reaction in your brain that you just can’t stop. Last week “Set if off” did that to me. I heard it and had to know more.

[artwork by www.framedink.com]

The track was recorded in 1984 by Walter Gibbons and released as an indie 12″. Walter had been a pioneering disco dj during the 70s, creating a lot of the techniques DJs use today.  Come the early 80s and Walter had slipped from the scene a bit, then suddenly he released this incredible chicago house killer cut. It was quickly picked up by Larry Levan and became a Paradise Garage legend spawning imitations and various “answer-back” versions.

Hats off to the innovators!
I might make this a regular spot of retro electro/house if you show some love…

Enjoy!

Architectur in Helsinki – Debbie (U-Tern remix)

July 21, 2008

At the beginning of the year DJ U-Tern posted these amazing remixes of the AIH track on his blog One Day Later

U-tern has been a CMYK favourite for some time… mixing electro, disco and bmore on his essential vinyl releases “The Cookie Jar EP” series.

I totally slept on his blog but I’ve been rinsing it all day today and suggest you do the same. There is so much goodness on there its hard to know where to start. Definitely try and pick up some of his sessions from Brooklyn radio

I decided to go with this remix as its so funk fresh thats its hard to resist.

Give U-Tern some love at his blog One Day later or over at his myspace

Minitel Rose – Alone in the future mix

April 6, 2008

The french noodlers have provided a wonderful lush electronic disco excursion free to all you 2k8 silver jumpsuit party poppers. I think they obviously stepped into a time machine and grabbed a live set from some night club Buck Rogers and Tweaky were playing at (I hear they are big in the 2k25 spank bars of tomorrow).

Minitel Rose are part of the Valerie project, a collaboration of hyper cool electronic recording artists, who desribe themselves as “warrior flash dancers”. I have often thought of myself in the same way.
