There are some pretty easy to follow steps to getting blog heat…

• Have a hip kinda name
• get some quality graphics/promo pics done..
• remix some other blog darlings (i.e. Ladyhawke, la roux, empire of the sun etc..)
• keep it 80s synth

Swedish group We & lisa seem to have ticked all of the above (accept having any decent promo shots which they don’t, hence a pic of Wendy & Lisa!)
Even better, it seems their keyboardist Doc Ron has a deft ear for the cosmic. His remix of ladyhawke is recommended.

The We & Lisa album “Dreams Within A Dream” was released on March 31 2009 on the Nebraska label Series Two Records.

If you have read this blog in its early days you’ll know we’ve had a sweet thing for Kid Sister for time…

If you know me then you know I’ve had an even sweeter thing for back in the day Hip House classics (Jungle Brothers are CLASSIC ya ear!). Put the two together and the blog post was pretty much compulsory really.

No matter what you think of corporate sponsoring on releases, this is still a fine effort. I think Treasure Fingers in on the production for this one. Stripped bare with electro all over its face.

Cheeky but totally fresh.. Clare Hux , the project comprising Dj’s DLake, Morsy and singer Symbol are working on a mixtape, in the process they came up with this.

The original Thom Yorke track, Black Swan, taken from the Eraser album is moody but mesmerizing. The Clare Hux boys have thrown a quality sweet nu soul vocal over this and lifted it to some dimension-spanning-mind-melting shit.

Can’t wait for the mixtape to drop… I’ve loved DLakes Bmore series and this one is set to further lift these guys to proper mainline status!

So it begins… get ready for four days of hyped bands and BIG gigs.

 

Sound city starts tonight in Liverpool. So many venues and so many bands that I just aint gonna go there right now…

For me this is a must see. I missed them a couple months back at Korova but reports came back saying that there shit is rocket powered. I’m into that!

Ctrl.Alt.Shift

There is a big party tonight over in Shoreditch studios hosted by Ctrl.Alt.Shift to mark the end of the ctrl.alt.shift project that we mentioned way back when it started last year.

Just to recap this was a competition designed to get young film makers to engage in socio political stories under the headings AIDS +Stigma, Gender+Power, War+Peace. Winning entrants were then given a soundtrack from one of a number of bands donating there time, including Metronomy, Shy Child and Chipmunk.

So any way BIG shouts to the winners Joe Patrick & Tim Woodall, Tim Travers Hawkins, Fern Berresford, Ben Newman and Shelia Menon & Alex Monro.

Royksopp x Holy Fuck

Road trip today and just sorting a little compilation for the journey.

 

 

This track is definitely getting an include. Not often does an ep come out with every inclusion being a killer but this new ep release of remixes for Royksopp’s “Happy Up Here” is full of talent including Breakbot and Boys Noize. The favourite for us though is this cosmic excursion from Holy Fuck (pictured). Like a moment in a Stanley Kubrick film it bristles with a psychedelic malevolence that’s compelling and disturbing.

Anyone wanna submit there driving compilation top 10? Fleetwood Mac in there by chance?

AC Slater x LOL BOYS

The winners of the recent AC Slater remix comp have just been announced.

The task was to make-over AC’s new release “Hello” on the Nightshifters label.

Pick of the bunch for us is this LOL Boys entry. Gone is the glitch bass and tuff beats, instead its all been replaced by elegant horns and graceful strings. This is brimming with summer and a touch of hazy feelgood which is just what we want today.
